Realising the potential demand of the workshop from many academic stakeholders in Indonesia and also reflecting the positive feedback came up after the event, Curtin University tried to hold same series of Workshop in the other two cities in Indonesia. One of them was in Bandung. Bandung as a city in West Java has a unique characteristic related to academic aspect. There are some well known universities in Bandung, such as Technology Institute of Bandung (ITB) , Universitas Parahyangan, Universitas Padjajaran, and there is also LIPI Bandung office as a leading national research institution in Indonesia. Those circumstances encouraged Curtin University to hold the same workshop in Bandung one day after Jakarta’s series.
As the same event of the “Indonesia Future Researchers Workshop”, the Bandung workshop discussed the same topics on Climate change , Sustainability, Water Quality, Public Policy, Poverty, Governance, Demographic issues and Research. While the key presenters of the event were :
Professor Peter Newman
Professor Peter Newman is the Director of the Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute and is the lead author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 2014 report on transport. He is one of the world’s leading commentators on transportation, urban planning and sustainability.
Professor John Phillimore
Professor John Phillimore is the Executive Director of the John Curtin Institute of Public Policy in Australia. He was formerly the Chief of Staff and senior advisor to several government minsters and a leading researcher on public policy issues.
Dr Francky Busetti
Dr Francky Busetti is a Senior Research Fellow at the Curtin Water Quality Research Centre. For the past decade he has been actively involved in a number of high profile research projects concerning water quality and treatment.
Professor Kate Wright
Professor Kate Wright is the Associate Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research Training) at Curtin University. She is responsible for Higher Degree by Research programs and students.
The workshop in Bandung was held on Tuesday, 10th of June, 2014 at ASTON Primera Pasteur Hotel and Conference Center , Bandung. There were many senior researchers and lecturers participated in the event. Many of them came to the event not only to listen to the research findings delivered by Curtin professors, but they also came to offer some collaboration opportunity for Curtin with their institutions or universities. In other words, these series of workshop became good means for Indonesia and Autralia to do bridging and networking in academic ways. The Bandung workshop itself was attended by 43 attendees from 4 well known Indonesia universities and 13 local government departments.
