Volunteering as a Junior (Aged 14-18 years)

Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person's character lies in their own hands.  -- Anne Frank

Being a teenager is amazing and hard at the same time.  They are not an adult yet to hold social responsibilities and freedom, but not a child anymore to be ignorant and careless.  Volunteering as a Junior with Saksara is a great opportunity for them to learn about life by doing and have fun at the same time.

Partnering with a US organisation, we offer 42 volunteering programs across 16 countries for teenagers age 14-18.  All the junior programs are carefully hand-picked so the impact will long lasting both for the teenagers and the communities they help.  Our programs are conceived with combination of volunteering, discovering the local cultures and tourism spots, and other recreational activities.  Following the same ethical standards of accountability as our adult programs, our junior programs include volunteering for: education, healthcare, community services, and the environment.  Depend on the project, most participants are high school students from USA (about 80%) and the rest come from all around the world.  It is a great opportunity to make international friends!

Why junior volunteering is good for teenagers?
Travelling holds the power to connect us with people from different cultures and backgrounds.  It exposes us to new ideas and helps to shape who we have to become.  As more and more parents invest holiday travel for their children, they noticed that teenagers especially develop a broadened perspective of life as well as increased in confidence, independence, and personal growth.  It works as a good reminder that we are all part of a shared humanity.  It also help teenagers explore their interests for their future career aspirations.
