Improving access to practical childcare knowledge in Indonesia through the development of a digital learning application for parents and domestic carers in Indonesia

Helping carers of children learn something every day is the goal of this EdTech solution by Saksara. This simple app is designed for parents, domestic carers, grandparents and others involved in the collaborative care of children. It will deliver a shared parcel of carefully constructed knowledge related to child nutrition, health, safety, play and development to the family group each day. It is designed to build knowledge over time, through small parcels of applicable knowledge that users can explore in just a few minutes each day. They will also have the opportunity to apply their new knowledge in their childcare practice that day through a curated library of recommended tasks. The content has been specifically developed for Indonesia, and includes data and advice that is purposefully relevant to Indonesia. From Vitamin D deficiency prevalence in Indonesia, the risks of exposure to tobacco smoke, or the importance of infant tummy time play on improving physical and cognitive development outcomes in Indonesia, the knowledge database feed has been professionally developed to deliver knowledge that both parents and domestic carers can easily understand and apply.

Additionally, the app acts as a tasks list in which the family group leader can assign tasks to domestic carers, and additionally access a task suggestions feed that is related to the daily learning content. Other administrative features are also available, including profiles on children (developmental milestones, health information, growth charts, etc) and domestic carer profiles (KTP, emergency contacts, leave applications, etc).

As the demand for well qualified domestic carers increases over the next decade, demonstrating knowledge acquisition will be highly valued by prospective employers. It will likewise be of immediate value to family groups that will share in a small parcel of knowledge daily, sparking informal discussion on topics that really matter.
